GOHH PROGRAM
GIRLS OF HIP-HOP (GOHH) is a free online dance and wellness program for Black and Latina girls ages 7-17 dedicated to creating racial and cultural equity through the performing arts. Dance improves motor skills, decision making, creativity, risk taking cultural understanding, attentiveness, and awareness. GOHH brings quality dance programming to youth who would have difficulty accessing these opportunities.
The GOHH program will teach the movement foundation of Hip Hop dance, provide education on the history of the culture, health and wellness training along with performance opportunities.
DANCE CLASSES
Led by LOHH coordinators, Black and Latina girls ages 7-17 will immerse themselves in Hip-Hop dance culture. Our qualified, female-powered staff will introduce the girls to basic dance vocabulary, hip hop dance history, hip hop grooves, and related cultural dance classes.
HEALTH & EMPOWERMENT: YOGA & MEDITATION
We believe the arts are an important step on the path to change. Our instructors will teach our Girls of Hip-Hop about living a healthy, leading an active life and how to practice daily affirmations to encourage a life filled with positivity and gratitude.
COMMUNITY: A HEALING SPACE
GOHH will provide a space where girls can build relationships, engage and share their stories in conversations facilitated by Black female leaders to give voice and visibility to girls of color. A community is a group of people that share similarities through opinion, culture, or trends. Being part of a community of like-minds is very important for girls' well-being. We will provide them with amazing role models and a network of women who will lead and support them into their future.
BUILDING MEMORIES
So many girls of color are missing those memories of Saturday mornings at dance classes. Missing are the stories of getting dressed in leotards and buns to head to class. GOHH exists to fill that void, building sisterhood, knowledge and support to build that sense of community and empower girls of color through Hip Hop dance.
